Hourglass Peak popped up as popular snow shoe objective in the past few years as it’s close to the city, has limited avalanche terrain and some view points. A summer trail has also been developed and it just so happens to be somewhat enticing for a poor weather outing as well. Andrea and I were faced with just such a predicament and decided we might as well get some exercise in the one area with some sun. We came armed with bikes and pedalled the bulk of the journey on roads before turning into a trail for the last section.

The trail up to the view point was well built and the views were actually quite nice. We then went off trail to reach the true summit which involved some soggy bushwhacking. That was offset by handfuls of blueberries and before long we were on the summit, with blue tongues and wet socks. There sadly weren’t any views, so we headed back down to our bikes. As always biking up pays dividends on the way down and we had a fun ride all the way back to the car.
