There are some peaks with no real redeeming qualities other than to cure a malady of restlessness. Coupled with a healthy dose of rain, they can make you question why you ever bothered to leave the house. Mount Agassiz was one of those summits. On any other day, I may have passed this one up, but I had been cooped up all week with a cold and was in dire need of some time outdoors. Alex and Trevor had floated around some more exciting ideas, but the weather collapsed at the last minute and that left us searching for something close to home. Alex had an idea to do Mount Agassiz and I just wanted to come along for the ride so the contract was signed.

We pulled up to the soggy trailhead around 8:30am and followed a road and then trail up through the forest. Despite how rainy it was, the forest was quite nice. Once we were sufficiently drenched, which was rather quick, we didn’t bother taking in the scenery and pushed on as quickly as possible. There wasn’t much to note by the time we reached Campbell Lake and we jogged down the service road and then up through second growth to gain the south ridge. From there we ascended up open forest to the summit.

The top looked like it might have nice views, but we were stuck in a cloud and bailed off as soon as we arrived. Our return was no more interesting and after 1.5 hours of soggy trudging we were back at the car. It was nice to get out, but only out of desperation.
